  • Use Google Earth to measure how far teams have travelled to Germany. Use Google Earth to measure how far teams travel from venue to venue. How far will the winning team have travelled? If the winning team comes from Europe, will it have done more miles than a team from South America/Australia that goes out in the first stages?

  • Use a spreadsheet to calculate income at games (attendance figures and ticket prices).

  • Create a branching database to identify each team.

  • Record a commentary from a video clip of World Cup footage.

  • Use some digtal stills and some video editing software to produce a 'Match of the Day' type introduction.
  • Design a logo for the next World Cup- research past ones.

  • There is a theory that most goals are scored within 5 mins of either side of 1/2 time or the end of the game. Record when goals are scored and use a spreadsheet to graph the results to test this hypothesis.

  • Role play: assume the roles of winning/losing manager, captain, goalscorer, tv interviewer ... and this is taken on video.
Many thanks to Paul Wright for providing these further ideas for developing work around the World Cup.
